Position: Senior Medical Physicist

Managing Radiotherapy physics duties and QA dosimetry.

  • Planning for Brachytherapy and External Beam radiation therapy.
  • Performing Quality assurance on equipment.
  • Counselling patients on radiation safety.

The Nairobi Hospital Cancer Center, Oncology Department (Dec 2020 - 2023)

Position: Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist

Experienced in managing the physics and dosimetry for a high-volume, hospital-based radiation oncology center.

The center is equipped with:

  • 2 Varian CLinax with 1 RapidArc.
  • GYN HDR with GammaMed Plus & Eclipse Brachy v15, Varian Medical Systems Ir-192.
  • LDR Prostate Seed Implants with Vari-Seed, Varian Medical Systems I-125 (S17-stranded seeds technology).
  • 3D CRT, IMRT, and Rapid-Arc VMAT planning with Eclipse, Varian Medical System.
  • 4 (I-131) Radio-Iodine Suites.
  • 1 GE CT- Simulator.
  • 1 Brilliance 64 Phillips CT.

Duties:

  • In-charge of brachytherapy planning for GYN, Esophageal cancers, and prostate plans.
  • Administering of radioactive I-131 for Thyroid carcinoma and thyrotoxicosis.
  • Performed VMAT commissioning of one of the RapidArcs.
  • Managing dosimetry and physics quality assurance.
  • Patient education and counselling.
  • Trans-rectal prostate biopsy mapping.
  • External Beam treatment planning (3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT).
  • Performing post-implant dosimetry.
  • Had direct oversight of patient specific checks and measurements, such as IMRT QA, special dosimetry, and special medical physics consults.
  • Mobius fx and 3D Software, DoseLab Pro v6, OmniPro software, OmniPro acceptance.
  • In May 2021, moved to stranded seeds Prostate LDR implants and successfully performed dosimetry and installation of new S17 ISOCHORD system.

University of Malaya Medical Center (UMMC) - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2020

Position: Medical Physics Attachment

Specialized in Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy departments.

  • Training in treatment planning and dosimetry.
  • Performed absolute dose calibration of linear accelerator.
  • Trained on treatment planning of 3D-CRT, VMAT, and IMRT for various cancer cases using Eclipse Treatment Planning System.
  • Performed QC for gamma camera and radiopharmaceuticals Yr-99.
  • Observed preparation and administration of various radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Participated in daily and weekly QA of PET-CT (Philips).
  • Observed and participated in QC of general x-ray machines.
